A writing exercise

If you're going through a case of writer's block or haven't written anything in awhile, it's tough just to find words to put onto paper. The following exercise is not necessarily meant to test your creativity, but simply to help get words out and flowing. Those of you who know me, also know my mantra: "Write something every day, even if it's just a paragraph that you throw out."

The Exercise:

You are walking down an unfamiliar street, ravenously hungry. You see four restaurants. One is a fast food place, one is a buffet, one is sit-down fine dining, and one is a chain (think Applebee's, Olive Garden, etc). Which restaurant do you choose? What type of cuisine does it serve, and what do you order? You may write something straightforward from your own point of view, or use a fictional character and specific circumstances.

Exercises should be posted as comments to this post. Looking forward to seeing what everybody comes up with!

WELCOME NOTE FROM THE CO-MOD

The entries to this community thus far have been friends-locked and are invisible to non-members. If you're visiting the main page for the first time, this entry is probably the only one you can see.

The community has recently been overhauled and we want it to become a safe haven where childfree and childfree-friendly writers can post our works for critique and where we can participate in intelligent, adult discussion about writing. This is not a child-hating community. That sort of thing can be taken to your own journal or to one of the communities specifically set up for it. Flaming will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Even if you've been a member from the beginning, please take a look at the newly-revamped user info page! New members must read the community rules before posting.

Enjoy the community!
